Moles

Moles are not considered a major disease risk to humans but that doesn’t mean they’re harmless.

Moles are a common issue across lawns, paddocks, and golf courses and while you rarely see them, the damage they leave behind is hard to miss.

At Dalton Pest, we deal with mole activity regularly, especially during peak season when ground conditions are idea

Signs You

Have Moles

Not just the obvious molehills there are other signs too:

  • Raised ridges across lawns (shallow tunnels)

  • Soft or spongy ground underfoot

  • Sudden patches of disturbed or dying grass

  • Increased activity after rain

  • Soil pushed up along edges, paths, or boundaries

What Not

To Do

Mole control is often done wrong, which can make things worse:

  • Don’t ignore early signs – activity spreads quickly

  • Don’t rely on DIY methods – most don’t solve the issue properly

  • Don’t flatten molehills and leave it – tunnels are still active underneath

  • Don’t use ineffective deterrents – noise/vibration gadgets rarely work long-term

  • Don’t assume they’ll move on – if food is there, they’ll stay

  • Don't use inhumane methods

Why Mole Control

Is Important

Moles don’t spread disease like rodents, but they can still cause serious problems:

  • Trip hazards – molehills and tunnels create uneven ground

  • Damage to lawns & turf – ruining gardens, sports pitches, and golf courses

  • Undermining ground stability – tunnels weaken the surface below

  • Costly repairs – especially on maintained grounds and landscaped areas

  • Rapid spread of activity – tunnel systems can expand quickly

How We Deal With Moles

At Dalton Pest, we focus on efficient, targeted mole control.

Our approach:

  • Identify active runs and tunnel systems

  • Strategic placement of control measures

  • Regular checks and follow-up

  • Ongoing management for larger areas (like estates or golf courses)

Because with moles, it’s not about chasing damage…it’s about stopping it at source.

Why Acting Fast Matters

With moles:

  • Damage spreads quickly across affected areas

  • Ground becomes increasingly unstable

  • Repair costs rise the longer it’s left

Key Facts

  • Moles can create extensive tunnel systems in a short time

  • A single mole can produce multiple molehills per day

  • They feed mainly on worms so healthy soil can attract them

  • Once established, they rarely leave on their own

  • Damage is often worse below ground than what you see on the surface
